A Traditional Approach to Martial Arts
Our Academy does not consider Taekwondo as merely a sporting activity.
We teach a traditional martial art founded on essential values: respect, discipline, perseverance, humility, loyalty, and self-control.
Each student represents the Academy through their behaviour, attitude, and commitment during classes, training camps, competitions, and external activities.
The Master–Student Relationship
In traditional martial arts, the relationship between the student and the master holds a central place.
It is based on trust, mutual respect, and continuity in teaching.
The role of the master is not limited to teaching techniques; he also guides the student in their martial and personal development.
We therefore ask students to demonstrate transparency, respect, and loyalty towards their school and instructors.
Participation in Training Sessions at Other Clubs
Some students may occasionally receive invitations to participate in training sessions, camps, or activities organised by other clubs.
In the spirit of traditional martial arts, students are expected to discuss this beforehand with Master Kim or the responsible instructors.
Our objective is not to forbid exchanges, but to preserve:
- the consistency of the teaching;
- the pedagogical follow-up of students;
- the relationship of trust between the student and the Academy;
- the martial values transmitted within the club.
Discovering afterwards that a student regularly attends another club without prior communication is considered a lack of respect towards the Academy and the teaching received.
Advanced Students Supervision
From blue belt onwards, students are expected to train regularly under the supervision of Master Kim.
At this level, technical development, belt preparation, and martial progression require direct and consistent guidance.
Advanced students are therefore expected to attend:
- Master Kim’s classes in Saint-Gilles on Tuesdays;
- or Master Kim’s classes in Uccle on Wednesdays;
- or the special advanced students class on Thursdays.
The Thursday class is specifically dedicated to advanced students and provides more intensive and in-depth training adapted to the requirements of their level.
Attendance and Commitment
Progress in martial arts is based on regular practice and personal commitment.
Attendance at classes, camps, and important Academy activities is considered an integral part of the student’s journey.
We encourage every practitioner to develop:
- perseverance;
- seriousness in training;
- respect for instructions;
- team spirit and mutual support.
Respect for the Martial Framework
Respect for the dojang, instructors, training partners, and Academy rules is essential for healthy and constructive practice.
We expect every student to maintain a correct and respectful attitude consistent with the values of traditional martial arts.
The Academy reserves the right to remind students of these principles or take appropriate measures when the martial spirit and respect for the framework are not upheld.
The Taekwondo Oath
The Taekwondo Oath is an integral part of traditional martial arts practice.
It is not merely a formality recited during black belt ceremonies, but a moral commitment reminding practitioners of the values they should strive to apply both inside the dojang and in everyday life.
Through this oath, students commit themselves to:
- respecting the principles of Taekwondo;
- respecting their instructors and training partners;
- demonstrating sincerity, perseverance, and self-control;
- using their knowledge responsibly;
- remaining faithful to the martial spirit and the values of the Academy.
Respecting the oath contributes to building a serious, respectful, and coherent practice in line with the teaching transmitted.
Within our Academy, we attach great importance to these values. Technical progress cannot be separated from behaviour, attitude, and respect for the martial spirit.
